Care allowance - What you need to consider

Writer: David BührerDavid Bührer

The care allowance is an important measure to ensure that people in Austria can enjoy a comfortable retirement. In order to relieve the burden on relatives and people in need of care, the federal government increased the care allowance by 1.5% in January 2021.

In order to be entitled to care allowance, certain requirements must be met. This is based on the level of care required, which must be at least 65 hours per month. In addition, the person requiring care must have their usual place of residence in Austria.

The number of hours of care required is determined either by a doctor or a care professional.

You can find a detailed list of the care levels in our following article on this topic.

Since 2021, the possibility of a discussion with relatives has been extended. This means that carers who feel burdened by the strain of intensive care can talk to psychologists.

It is important to note that, in principle, there is no form for the application. If such an application has already been submitted by you and may have been received by the wrong contact point, it must be forwarded to the responsible office. We will be happy to help you if there are any delays or if you feel unsure - please contact us and we will be happy to clarify this for you.
